James A. Westbrook, President & CEO, Carbon Asset
Management. James Westbrook is the President, CEO and founder
of MotivEarth, LLC. He has nearly 20 years of experience managing or completing
more than 100 environmental permitting projects for diverse industries in more
than 20 US states. Industries served include power generation (200 kW to
>100 MW facilities), manufacturing facilities, food industries, electronics,
chemical companies, offshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities, coating
manufacturing, glass manufacturing, oil and gas production facilities, and
refineries. Example companies include Johns Manville, Tierra Energy, Johnson
Controls, Chevron, Fisher-Scientific, Northrop Grumman, EDS Corporation, and
Disneyland. Prior to starting MotivEarth, in 1997 Mr. Westbrook founded
BlueScape, Inc. (www.bluescapeinc.com). He holds a B.S. in Atmospheric Sciences
from the University of California at Los Angeles, and an M.S. in Environmental
Science from Indiana University. As President and CEO of MotivEarth, Mr.
Westbrook is responsible for leading MotivEarth’s management team and building
key client relationships. He directs strategic corporate carbon planning and
emissions inventories, carbon asset management, and environmental permitting
activities for MotivEarth.
Joseph Ritter, Director of Operations. Mr.
Ritter has a diverse background in promoting and supporting technologies to a
broad range of industries, with over 15 years of Corporate Sales Management,
Sales Operations, and international business development. His knowledge of the
inner-workings of major corporations is instrumental to representing MotivEarth
services. Mr. Ritter worked for Cymer (www.cymer.com), the leading supplier of
laser light sources for the semiconductor industry. His various
responsibilities included Vice President of Sales and Sales Operations for the
company. He also leveraged his strong technical background with Nalco Chemical
Company, where he held positions of progressive responsibility in US Sales, and
Marketing functions for the Basic Industry Group - Utilities. Mr. Ritter also
volunteers time as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence with San Diego Connect,
assisting start-up companies develop their business plan in preparation for
angel investor and venture capital (www.connect.org). Mr. Ritter holds a BS in
Civil Engineering, and an MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of
Illinois. For MotivEarth, Mr. Ritter is charged with building MotivEarth’s
management team, managing general sales activities and key partnerships,
investor relations, and leading industrial carbon reduction and renewable
energy project design and development activities.
Thomas Berge, PE, JD, Director of Engineering.
Thomas Berge is MotivEarth’s Director of Engineering, with 18 years of applied
environmental and chemical engineering experience. He is an expert in
environmental regulatory affairs. Mr. Berge is a registered PE and attorney in
California. For MotivEarth, he takes a lead technical role in establishing
verifiable engineering calculation methodologies to complete carbon emission
inventories. On carbon emission reduction projects, he works with clients to
identify and evaluate the best clean technologies and engineering methods to
cost-effectively reduce emissions. His knowledge is invaluable for maximizing
carbon offset development return-on-investment. Mr. Berge’s engineering
background encompasses the power generation industry, oil and gas production,
wastewater treatment, waste management, chemical manufacturing, coating
facilities, aerospace facilities, food industries, large military bases, and
many others. He has extensive experience in environmental permitting in
California. Prior to MotivEarth, Mr. Berge worked with BlueScape Environmental
and Metcalf and Eddy.
